Mansi Allen Redefines the Art of Furniture Design with Furnestry

FDT Bureau

Mansi Allen, born and raised in a small city of Uttar Pradesh in Meerut, India, has always been inclined towards design. After completing her Mass Communication degree, she decided to pursue her passion for interior design and later delved into product design. During the pandemic, she introduced her brand Furnestry, a designer furniture label that has now become a name to reckon with in the industry. In a recent interview with FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT), Mansi Allen, Chief Designer and Co-founder, Furnestry, talked about her creative journey, inspirations, and the concept behind Furnestry.

Passion for designing

In 2020, when the world was at a standstill, Furnestry was born to provide high-quality furniture that lasts for a longer period with minimal maintenance. The brand offers accent pieces of furniture like dining tables, corner tables, room partitions and bar units, which are one of a kind. When asked about her interest in furniture design, she stated that she had always loved designing spaces but finding the right furniture for clients was a challenge. “So we started designing the furniture for them also and our designs got tremendous appreciation from everyone,” she informs.

Resin Restore Collection

Currently, Furnestry has the Resin Restore Collection, inspired by nature, with clear epoxy resin flowing through solid hardwoods, making each piece look as if a clear river is flowing through mountains. “We have the Resin Restore Collection with a beautiful line of products starting from dining tables to wall accents; each piece will transcend you to someplace exotic. The seascapes in the collection are breathtaking,” she explains. Furnestry works with fusion materials with natural hardwood being the central product, which enhances the eloquent personality of wood by fusing it with new-age materials. Allen further adds, “All our materials are ethically sourced. The furniture pieces are conceived and produced at our workshop. We too have a design studio. Furnestry is a team of around 25 people including designers to artisans.

Speaking about their top-selling furniture piece, Allen confirms, “The Silvanus office table taps the graceful antiquity of the campaign-style furniture. It marries solidity and rusticity to speak to a contemporary sensibility. A refined silhouette handcrafted using solid Indian rosewood with epoxy resin, Silvanus flaunts a trestle pedestal base and premium leather accents on the drawer profiles. This heirloom piece will provide plenty of storage to store your office supplies and essentials.”

Roadmap ahead

The journey has been an adventurous one for Allen, with its share of highs and lows but it has pushed her one step ahead. She has personally been involved in conceptualizing and delivering products to clients, training staff on material handling and getting the right finishes. When asked about her favourite piece of furniture, Allen mentioned the Bloom table, which she feels is not just a home accent but something very close to her heart.

Furnestry has its next line under production, the Terrazzo Collection, exploring the age-old technique of terrazzo-making with a completely new look and finish. The design concept is to create functional furniture accents. The future strategy for Furnestry is to continue offering high-quality furniture with unique designs and to expand their reach in the market.

All in all, Allen’s journey is a testament to her passion for design and her determination to make a mark in the industry. Furnestry is a brand that stands out for its quality, unique designs and ethical practices, offering furniture pieces that are not just accents but works of art.
