Starr, 87, long time president and former chief executive of Thomasville Furniture Industries died on last Wednesday 1 at Moses Cone Hospital from complications related to COVID-19. Thomasville Furniture Industries is a leading furniture manufacturer based in Thomasville, North Carolina, U.S. with dedicated galleries in more than 400 retail furniture stores. Starr lived in Greensboro.
Starr became president and CEO of Thomasville Furniture Industries in 1982 after joining the company in 1974. He led the company during its growth until retiring from the position in 1998. Most recently, Starr served as chairman and CEO of Thompson Traders, a specialty kitchen and bath manufacturer.
Thomasville Furniture began as Thomasville Chair Company in 1904, making 500 to 1000 chairs a day by 1905. Thomas Jefferson Finch and Charles F. Finch of Randolph County bought the company in 1907.
