This Furniture System is Inspired by Wall-Facing Preferences in Workspaces | Cubicle

FDT Bureau

Research indicates a preference for facing the wall in open-plan workspaces, inspiring Form Us With Love and +Halle to create Cubicle, a furniture system simulating this experience. Launched during Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design festival, Cubicle replicates the desired qualities people seek when selecting a seat in indoor spaces like libraries or co-working offices. Know more about it on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).

Based on engineer Andrew Khoudi’s PhD research, which examined data from Scandinavia’s largest library, Dokk1, the design offers a family of freestanding furniture pieces with a 1.2m high backdrop, bench seats and integrated tables. Formed with oak-veneered plywood, the designs draw inspiration from diner booths and train carriages, creating semi-rooms within larger spaces.

With a focus on the future of the workplace, Cubicle joins +Halle’s collection of innovative products, including the multi-use Sui Desk Chair and cocooning Proto chairs. Embracing changing behaviours, these designs emerge from the brand’s Annual Briefing, where speakers share insights shaping the future of furniture. Deliberately referencing office cubicles of the 1960s, Cubicle captures a contemporary approach to space and comfort in modern work environments.
